Your group chat is speaking a different language and you're nodding along like you get it. No judgement. Here's a quick Gen-Z dictionary — with examples straight out of college life.
Delulu
Short for delusional, but in a fun, self-aware way. Believing something will happen against all odds.
“Haven't studied but I'm getting a 9 pointer. I'm delulu.”
Related: “Delulu is the solulu” — the idea that a little delusion is actually the solution. Manifest first, panic later. It's literally a tee now.
Lowkey / Highkey
Lowkey = quietly, a little, not making a big deal. Highkey = openly, a lot.
“Lowkey want to skip the 8AM. Highkey already skipping it.”
Also: the name of our plain basics collection, because sometimes the fit should whisper.
Main character (energy)
Acting like you're the lead in your own movie — confident, dramatic, aesthetic.
“Walking into the fest in that fit? Main character energy.”
No cap
No lie. For real. “Cap” means lie.
“This canteen maggi is the best in the city, no cap.”
Rizz
Charm, especially when talking to someone you like. “Rizz someone up” = flirt successfully.
Situationship
More than friends, less than a relationship, zero clarity. Usually involves a lot of overthinking — hello, Overthinkers Club.
Ate (and left no crumbs)
Did something perfectly. Total success.
“She presented without notes. Ate. No crumbs.”
It's giving…
It has the vibe of… Used to describe energy.
“That hoodie + cargos combo? It's giving off-duty rapper.”
Slay
To do something really well, or look amazing. Still alive, still undefeated.
Not today
Polite (ish) refusal to deal with anything. Assignment? Not today. Feelings? Not today. We put it on a crop top with a grumpy cat, obviously.
Bestie
Best friend — but also used for literally anyone, including strangers and your professor (don't).
Touch grass
Go outside, get off your phone, reconnect with reality. Usually said to someone who's too online.
Bonus desi-Gen-Z combos
- “Bro is delulu fr” — your friend thinks he'll pass without attending a single class.
- “Lowkey bhook lagi hai” — it's 1AM and the maggi is calling.
- “Proxy laga de, no cap I'll owe you” — the most-used sentence in any hostel.
